The Phase II survey was conducted in 5 known site areas to determine eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. The survey determined the areas to have been previously disturbed by plowing and discing. Based on these results, it was recommended that the areas be cleared for construction.
The cemetery removal and relocation project area was approximately 1 acre with 25 marked burials. Upon excavation of marked units, 28 unmarked burials were discovered and also excavated. Techniques used in the excavation included the use of gradiometer and ground penetration radar. Prehistoric components were assessed to be non-significant and not eligible for the National Register.
Cemetery removal has been complete and the project area cleared for construction. Reinterment of the historic graves is pending completion of the landscaping of the new cemetery.
