A Phase II archeological excavation of the 1.5 acre 46PL48 site was conducted in December 1998 to determine the significance of the site and assess its eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places. This prehistoric archeological site was identified during a Phase I survey of the proposed Pleasants County Industrial Park, and was determined to be potentially eligible to the National Register based on the recovery of Woodland ceramic shreds and an Archaic projectile point.
A total of six one meter square units were excavated during the Phase II investigation, and yielded no evidence of an intact prehistoric occupation layer at the site. As a result, the site was determined to be not eligible to the National Register, and the project area was cleared for cultural resources.
